A Night of Hope

This Sunday night, the Kensington Church Youth Program is hosting a night of hope for our community. Several communities in metro detroit have lately had to face the issue of teen suicide, none more-so than the Lake Orion area. In response to recent suicides in Rochester and Birmingham, and to the lingering affects of suicides in the Lake Orion area we will be providing a hope-filled message to students and families Sunday night.

Please spread the word about this event. People NEED hope, and the only hope that is lasting is the hope we have in Christ. If you’re reading this, it is your responsibility to have conversations this week with those people in your life who you know need a message of hope in their lives. Make a difference this week Lake Orion.

**This will not be a touchy feely message where we kumbaya and light candles. Suicide is serious and we want it to end. In attempt to seriously combat this issue, we will be facing head on the issues that cause people to become depressed and isolated. The goal is to bring hope where there is none!

We have busses to transport students to and from this event. We leave from Lake Orion High School at 6pm. Please arrive around 5:45 to register.

You are lovely because He loves you.

If you missed Edge this Sunday night…You really missed it. I’m completely blown away by this amazing video that Alexa made for our service about Creation. If you weren’t there, you won’t be able to understand the full effect of this moment that happened, but I wanted to put up this video just so you could experience it even a little. Remember: you are lovely because He loves you.

Big Event This Thursday at Lake Orion High

Hello Lake Orion Campus Students and Parents!

I am writing to let you know of an assembly that is coming to the Lake Orion school district THIS WEEK!!! The 7 Project will be coming to LOHS and Scripps Middle School on Wednesday and to Oakview and Waldon Middle Schools on Thursday. During these assemblies, students will hear about six character traits that are important to developing a life that is fulfilling. Each school is able to pick character traits to speak on based upon each school’s need, so at this time, we are unsure of what specific traits will be given to each campus.

However, here’s where we need prayer and support from you! The seventh trait is a RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST! There will be another assembly in the LOHS auditorium on Thursday night. Doors open at 6:00 PM and the assembly will run from 7:00rom 7:00
English: World English Bible - WEB

WP-Bible plugin
PM to 8:30 PM. There will be a live band, prizes, and free food at the rally, but more importantly, the Gospel of Christ will be given as the ultimate fulfillment and answer for our lives!

I didn’t hear about this project until a few weeks ago in preparation for EACH, or I would have gotten it out to you sooner. This will be a wonderful launch into EACH/Unheard Of/the 300…If you’ve heard those names, they are all one and the same: we will be working together to share the love of Jesus through the month of february and march with everyone at Lake Orion High, Oxford High, Clarkston, and Brandon.

This is how you can be involved:

1. As of now, the day assemblies at LOHS will ONLY be to Freshman and Sophomores. The administration has decided that the Juniors/Seniors will not be involved. (As a sidebar, if you are a parent of a Junior/Senior at LOHS and would like to see your student involved in the rally, give the office a call and let them know of your desire. They just might change their mind! God can do awesome things!)
2. The number one way that people will be at the night assembly to hear the gospel is through student invitation. So students: invite your friends! If you’re a junior or senior, you and your friends can still come to the night rally. So invite!!
3. Please pray for those that will be setting up/cleaning up, serving food, altar workers, prayer partners, etc. We need to cover this in prayer!

Email me with any questions you may have at amanda.kozlowski@kensingtonchurch.org. I will try to be at every assembly during the week that I can. Myself and my interns and several students will be there Thursday night for the rally. We’ll see you there!!

What do you think of Sexting?

“Sexting” MOS from Kensington on Vimeo.

We shared this video at Edge this past sunday night. Watch until the very end to hear a story about a girl who was forced into sex slavery right here in detroit. Do you believe that things like pornography and sexting lead into darker things like sex slave trade?

Discipleship Matters

I’ve recently been re-reading the book, “Growing True Disciples” by George Barna and I’d like to throw out a few of his thoughts. He says, “Discipleship matters. It matters because Jesus modeled it and commanded it. It matters because discipleship is necessary for the church to become healthy and productive. It matters because we cannot reach our potential without spiritual growth. And it matters because we cannot influence the world unless we can demonstrate faith-based transformation.”

Lately I’ve been so blessed by the discipleship relationships that I’m in. I have two girls that I disciple, and I am also in a mentorship/discipleship relationship with someone who is further along in their relationship with Jesus than I am. Its becoming clear to me that week after week the times on my schedule that I look forward to most are the times spent in these relationships with these people.

Faith becomes so much more alive when you turn around and teach someone else the things that God is teaching you. And, if you’re still new to your relationship with God, consider finding someone to lead you through what it looks like to follow Jesus and his teachings. If you want to learn the violin, you find a teacher. If you need help with math, you get a tutor. Why should spiritual growth be any different than that?

Click here for info on how to be a part of the discipleship process.

“Most believers say their faith matters, but few invest much energy in the pursuit of spiritual growth.” -George Barna
