This past monday night I was sitting a great group of high school students, students who are on a pretty incredible life journey. Being a high school director I have an incredible passion to witness people run from the trends of culture and grab onto something greater than them. Last night we began to read the 5th chapter in a book named Ephesians, which is found in the Bible. After reading this out loud, it was obvious what this passage meant so I asked these students what they gathered from this reading, thinking they would all come up with same conclusion, but they didn’t out of 12 of us everyone grabbed something different from this reading. Then I began to remember… we are all on a unique journey filled with different trials and fits of happiness, but more importantly this God I chose to follow loves me personally. I don’t have to fit into a mold, he has something different planned for me than anyone else. What is it you grab from this reading???

” Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents. Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that. Don’t allow love to turn into lust, setting off a downhill slide into sexual promiscuity, filthy practices, or bullying greed. Though some tongues just love the taste of gossip, those who follow Jesus have better uses for language than that. Don’t talk dirty or silly. That kind of talk doesn’t fit our style. Thanksgiving is our dialect. You can be sure that using people or religion or things just for what you can get out of them—the usual variations on idolatry—will get you nowhere, and certainly nowhere near the kingdom of Christ, the kingdom of God. Don’t let yourselves get taken in by religious smooth talk. God gets furious with people who are full of religious sales talk but want nothing to do with him. Don’t even hang around people like that. You groped your way through that murk once, but no longer. You’re out in the open now. The bright light of Christ makes your way plain. So no more stumbling around. Get on with it! The good, the right, the true—these are the actions appropriate for daylight hours. Figure out what will please Christ, and then do it. Don’t waste your time on useless work, mere busywork, the barren pursuits of darkness. Expose these things for the sham they are. It’s a scandal when people waste their lives on things they must do in the darkness where no one will see. Rip the cover off those frauds and see how attractive they look in the light of Christ.”

Turkey Bowl!

The Lights were on, the music was pumping, and the talent was there!!!!

November 21st was an example an epic high school event…TURKEY BOWL.  120 high school students playing for a grand prize, but more importantly playing for bragging rights.  This event was hosted at West Orange High School where Kensington Church meets on Sunday Mornings.  There were 3 categories making this event as amazing as it was.

3) Critical Mass

120 high school students registered at the gates of this event.  There was a major sense of WOW when students walked in and witnessed all that was put into this event.

2) Volunteer Community

-  30 Adults from our community stepped up to make this event happen,  In my opinion we had the best concession stands in america I would even venture to say this event beats going to a University of Florida game and eating their crappy nacho’s.  Our referees were dead on they loved it so much they all stayed until the tournament ended at 11:35pm.  More importantly is the fact that there was 30 adults who believe in this NEXT generation and share a heart of reaching high school students like I do!

1) Community Awareness

- There was nearly 200 people who attended this event either as a player, volunteer, or spectator and the vibe and talk from everyone who was around they were impressed and grateful for us putting on this event.  I wanted to share with you an email I received from a student at one of our local high schools, “Wattup Josh Im ……. one of the kids you spoke with in the group of guys toward the end of the night ,I just wanted to say thank you for setting up the 7v7 tournament I had ALOT!! of fun Im really lookin forward to another one real soon. i had a blast. my team lasted pretty far, we did’nt get the jackpot but we had so much fun man. hope to see you soon thanks for every thing ,have a very blessed night”

This event was a major win not only for Kensington Orlando or our high school ministry edge.  This event was a win because God is proving faithful to the calling he placed on our lives, the calling to move from Detroit to impact the families in Winter Garden Florida.  I’m so honored to be apart of such an outstanding organization like Kensington Church

Flag Football

Football is the most watched sport in America, and in my opinion it’s the most exciting sport to play. I wanted to give 4 reasons why this Turkey Bowl Flag Football is worth telling people about and worth playing in.

- There is nothing better than the smell of the air and the excitement of playing football under the lights, Monday Night football style.

- In my opinion everyone of us believe it or not are born with an natural edge to compete. This event will be full of competition working for a large prize…
